Caring for your Ring

Meteorite has been around for millions of years, and with proper care your ring will also stand the test of time. Here are a few tips to lengthen the longevity of your ring:

- While generally rust-resistant, precautions should be taken to limit exposure to moisture if possible. Ensure you remove your ring prior to activities that could promote rusting, such as swimming, heavy lifting, garden work, etc. Contact with harsh chemicals and cleaning solutions should also be avoided.

- They can be worn when washing your hands due to the protective coating we apply, but ensure they are dried soon after.

- When not worn, we recommend keeping your ring in a soft protective pouch and in a dry environment.

Protecting your ring

The best way to preserve the life of your ring is by using a protective jewellery wax or lubricating oil that repels water and seals the ring.

Jewellery Wax - Apply a thin layer of wax (we recommend Renaissance Micro Crystalline Wax or similar) onto the ring and re-apply as and when required, but we recommend once every 3 to 4 weeks.

Lubricating Oil - Gun oil (or similar) can also be used to repel moisture. Simply coat the ring in the oil and wipe away with a soft cloth.

Cleaning your ring

Over a long period of time and in extremely rare cases, your meteorite ring may develop small superficial rust spots which can easily be removed by following these steps:

What you'll need - A soft-bristled toothrbush, WD-40 and a soft cloth

Step 1 - Spray a small amount of WD-40 to a soft cloth and wipe the meteorite area thoroughly, focusing on the rust where visible.

Step 2 - Gentle scrub a soft-bristled toothrbush on the areas of rust on the ring.

Step 3 - Leave a thin layer of WD-40 on the meteorite overnight, allowing it to absorb into the ring.

Step 4 - Scrub the rust away with a soft-bristled toothbrush, and repeat if necessary to remove any remaining rust.

While this may seem like a lot of work to keep the ring looking brilliant, wearers feel that it’s worth it - after all it’s a small price to pay to have something that’s literally out of this world.
